no offense to those people out there who read my blog, but something that bothers me is changing fonts to emphasize certain words. for some reason, i get so distracted when i read it and my eyes just naturally jump from bold phrase to bold phrase, skipping everything in between. i have to concentrate very hard to read the text, which i think defeats the purpose.

another reason is that i feel it makes the writing a little too melodramatic. if you exaggerate the words, it seems that you are exaggerating as a whole, thus you lose some credibility. but that's more of a distant secondary reason.

it's weird that it never really bothered me until about a year ago. i noticed that i couldn't really read easily for those blogs with different size, color, and bold/italic fonts all over the place.

i'm sure i do things every day (like not capitalize words) on this blog that annoy people. but i had to update, because PJ told me to.

on an unrelated note, here's a pretty cool quote that i heard. it's not verbatim, but close enough: "people don't remember what you said, they remember how you made them feel."

score one for the pure-science nerds.

did you know that the Economics Nobel is not a true Nobel prize? it was not a part of Alfred Nobel's will and was not recognized as a "pure" science. it is officially called "The Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel."

according to today's WSJ:

The distinction was made clearer last year when the Nobel Foundation decided not to announce the economics prize in the same week that it announced awards in peace, physics, chemistry and medicine.

when aileen found this out, she gave me multiple high-fives.
